Abstract

This paper explores local governance and development as critical processes of instrument for women’s empowerment. It delves into the socio-economic empowerment of women in the Tamaraipadi rural region of Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu. This paper focuses on education, health care, and decision-making authority as the major factors for women’s empowerment. It uses quantitative data collection method and analyses of data using simple random sampling, based on an interview schedule and a structured questionnaire. The study’s findings and suggestions focus on rural women’s limited educational attainment, barriers to their decision-making autonomy, and the status of women’s healthcare and sanitation facilities. The study concludes with policy recommendations to empower rural women economically and socially at both the household and societal levels.
